Dr. Hong Jiang

Dr. Hong JiangDr. Hong Jiang is Executive Advisor at Cartagena Capital. Dr. Jiang is a proven entrepreneur, a well-known technologist and industry visionary in the wireless industry. She has founded three companies, raised over $40 million in venture capital funding and successfully established the leadership position of these companies in their respective space.

Currently she is the president and CEO of Montina Inc., a technology consulting company focused on opportunities that arise between China and the US, and in the telecom/wireless industry.

In her previous role as the founding CTO at Roundbox, she was responsible for the business planning and product definition of Roundbox's carrier-grade software products. She raised $21 million of venture capital funding with two other co-founders. She worked with operators in the US, China and Korea to bring mobile TV and mobile radio services to handsets via new mobile broadcasting technologies including FLO, DVB-H BCMCS, MBMS and DMB. She split her time between US and China in the past three years, worked extensively with China Unicom and partnered with other infrastructure vendors including Huawei, ZTE, UTstarcom, China Techfaith and Lucent. She developed a broad network of people in the telecom and broadcasting industry in China including Ministry of Information Industry (MII) and State Administration of Radio Film and Television (SARFT).

As the founder and CEO of Tatara Systems, Dr. Jiang led the development of Tatara's business strategy of service convergence. Tatara is focused on providing software solutions that allow for mobile operators to provide converged services regardless of the underlying networks (e.g., fixed, mobile, WiFi, WiMax or femto cells). She assembled an experienced management team, and provided the technology vision and business strategy that enabled the company to minimize the early market risks and maximize the customer base. Prior to founding Tatara, Dr. Jiang was a founding member at Flarion Technologies, which was acquired by Qualcomm for over $600 million. She was responsible for the network architecture of Flarion's wireless system. Prior to Flarion, Dr. Jiang spent five years at Lucent Technologies where she worked on 1G, 2G and 2.5G mobile data network infrastructure products.

Her work in the areas of wireless data systems yielded more than 15 patent applications and numerous published papers. Dr. Jiang earned her Ph.D. and Master's degrees in Electrical engineering from Northwestern University.
